'Where Am I Going Now?' is the story of a young man who, through the influence of a church member friend, is introduced to the Book of Mormon. Hesitant at first, he is not sure how such a book could help his life improve. He lives with his mother and together they survive the best they can while the man of the house drinks and gambles their money away. Scott's father had left them six months earlier and his mother had met Paul thinking he would be the man of her dreams - but now she's not so sure!
Scott's best friend, David, lives with his family too. A returned missionary, and already deeply in love with Rachel, he seems to be sailing through life with the blessing of his whole family strong in the church. His younger brother and sister tease and fight with each other, as all children do, and sometimes the fact that their father is the Bishop of their ward doesn't seem to make any difference what so ever! But the family is happy, and Scott can see they have something more than luck on their side.
Rachel is also happy. Her love for David is as strong as his for her. Her family situation is perhaps not as ideal, though far from Scott's situation. She lives with her mother, who is a non-member, yet quite happy to let her daughter pursue her own life. Rachel longs for a temple marriage, and has decided that David is the right man for her, but has he received the same revelation?
The families and feelings of each of these individuals unfold to tell a touching story which has great effect on the audience. The simple concepts of personal and family prayer are put forward, a family home evening is watched, an introduction to the Book of Mormon is given and Temple marriage is touched on in explaining the eternal family unit. Even the dangers of following the worlds way is vividly portrayed when a gang of drug dealers catch up with Scott!
Eighteen original songs help convey these teachings in all varieties of music from love songs to pop music, the Book of Mormon comes alive as Nephites dance around the stage, yet the most dramatic scenes are saved for the ending when unexpected events change the course of life for all involved.
